A fair note: marketplace commission sometimes pays for genuine new-client discovery, which has real value. This calculator shows the cost side so you can weigh it against that value for your own salon. It excludes card processing fees and optional SMS costs, which apply on most platforms.

How to read the result

Commission isn't automatically bad — but it should be a choice

If a marketplace genuinely brings you new clients you wouldn't otherwise reach, paying commission on those first visits can be money well spent. The problem is when commission or fees apply to clients who would have booked with you anyway — regulars, referrals and people who found you on Google.

That's why many salons run a hybrid approach: their own website and booking system for direct and repeat bookings, with marketplace listings used deliberately for discovery. The calculator above helps you see what's at stake so you can make that choice with real numbers.

If you'd like a second pair of eyes, our free digital audit looks at where your bookings actually come from and what your current setup costs — with no obligation and no hard sell.

FAQs

Commission calculator questions

How does the calculator work?
You enter your own numbers — how many bookings a month come through a commission-charging channel, your average booking value, and the commission rate you pay. The calculator multiplies them out to a monthly and yearly cost, and compares that with a flat monthly software fee.
Where do I find my commission rate?
Check your current provider's pricing page, your contract, or your monthly statements. Rates and what they apply to vary by provider and plan — some charge only on new clients from their marketplace, others on more. Use the rate that actually applies to you.
Is this calculator biased towards Orbis Salon?
We've kept it deliberately simple and honest: it only uses numbers you type in, and it doesn't assume anything about any provider's rates. Marketplace visibility has genuine value for some salons — this tool just helps you see the cost side clearly.
Does Orbis Salon charge commission?
Orbis Salon is not a marketplace taking a percentage commission from every booking. Standard plans have no Orbis online booking service fee; Lite and Flex plans have lower monthly pricing and include a small online booking service fee on online bookings. The only other usage costs are optional SMS bundles and any third-party card processing fees.
What about card processing fees?
Card processing fees are separate from booking commission and apply on most platforms, including with Orbis Salon (they're charged by the payment provider). This calculator focuses on booking commission and marketplace fees only.
